Microsoft Teases Black Surface Devices Ahead of Hardware Event

Microsoft is expected to introduce refreshed Surface devices at a press event tomorrow. The company is expected to unveil the Surface Pro 6 and a new Surface Laptop device at the event, with some software-related announcements on the side.

Not too long ago, we exclusively reported that Microsoft’s new Surface devices will now be available in black. And now, Microsoft has seemingly confirmed our report on an official event page. The page, which has since been taken down, states that “Surface Goes Back to Black” which seems like the official campaign slogan for the new Surface devices.

“In April 2012, Microsoft launched the Surface RT, its sleek black chassis, detachable keyboard and integrated kick stand started a wave of innovation that has no signs of slowing down. Surface devices have inspired people to draw on their screens, work anywhere, collaborate across the world on 84inch Hubs, crank the volume with dial and even float their all in one screen up and down with a zero gravity hinge. It is safe to say the devices have come a long way in 6 years. But in October 2018, Surface goes Back to Black,” the page stated.

I, for one, am really excited about the return on the new black colors on the Surface devices, especially on the refreshed Surface Laptop. While I have been a huge fan of the burgundy Surface Laptop, a black version of the device would really look beautiful. I just hope the new black option simply isn’t plain black, though, as that would be quite bland. I am hoping for more of a “space grey” option that Apple does with its hardware, but that’s probably not going to happen. We shall see.

Just a reminder, though: Microsoft isn’t live streaming this event tomorrow, so keep your eyes locked at our site for all the official announcements coming live from NYC.

I like the look of a Black laptop. I also wish I could afford one of these in a 13 inch.

I only want a black device if the main material is black. I don't want one which only has a very thin color layer on top which then gets off within 6 months and then it looks super ugly with part of the color coming off.

For example i like the alcantara stuff a lot in look and feel while new, too but so far the only alcantara+ device combo kinda thing i had is an alcantara cover case for my S8+ and that looked proper ugly grimy after just 11 months to the degree i had to buy a second one.

Yeah, i know, one may ask why buy a second one, well, i love the look and feel of it while it is not grimy yet.

And for the case i can at least buy one for 30 bucks and it protects my expensive phone.

With MS sadly they don't make their alcantara keyboard covers swappable nor do i think there would be an easy way to refresh the color of the devices when it peels off.

If MS wants to go forward with such nice skin type things they should go all the way and allow swapping them by the user, like put it on with velcro or similar so i can swap it.

Then i might even buy a few in different colors.

I'd love for MS to release a 15" version of the Surface Laptop. I don't need the power / performance of the 15" Surface Book 2 but I love the 15" display size

In reply to locust infested orchard inc:

MS are far from 'master craftsman'. Their products seem to be more about style over substance to generate desirability (sound familiar!). If they could get their own hardware working properly with their own software, that would be a start! Our company bought a dozen or so SP4's to test, and they were generally appalling with poor reliability, out of the box problems, random crashes and yes, even some build quality issues. The fact they're not user serviceable and theres no onsite repair option – for a business – is terrible too. Not impressed.
