MixRadio Heads to Android and iOS

MixRadio—previously a Nokia music streaming service that was exclusive to Windows Phone—is now available on Android and iOS. But no worries, Windows Phone fans: MixRadio tells me it is still very committed to your favorite mobile platform.

I was invited to MixRadio’s announcement today in New York but couldn’t justify the expense. But I have always really liked the service, which fills a major functional gap that Xbox Music simply doesn’t supply, and does so at a very affordable price.

According to MixRadio, it is world’s most personalized streaming music service, offering streaming and download access to over 35 million tracks in 31 countries. When Microsoft purchased Nokia’s devices and services businesses, it acquired MixRadio too, but it decided to spin it out as a separate entity. MixRadio is now owned by LINE, and operates as an independent company.

With today’s announcement, the obvious has happened: MixRadio is now available on Android and iOS in addition to Windows Phone.

If you’re not familiar, MixRadio offers the following major features on all three supported platforms:

My Mix. MixRadio learns what you like and will tailor what it select to your tastes.

Handcrafted mixes. Before Beats pretended to invent this, MixRadio was providing handcrafted, curated mixes.

Offline access. You can download your top mixes and listen to them offline.

MixRadio has also announced a new partnership with HTC, by which MixRadio will exclusively provide personalized music news tailored to the users’ music tastes to HTC’s BlinkFeed. The firm already has partnerships with Adidas—it powers the music for the Adidas MiCoach Smart Run watch—and Harman Kardon, where it is integrated into the firm’s Omni speakers for a seamless personalized home audio experience.

Of most important to me and, I would imagine, you, MixRadio will continue to be pre-loaded on Microsoft’s Lumia devices globally, and MixRadio is committed to providing the full MixRadio service to Lumia users going forward. In other words, we’re not second class citizens.
