Apple Releases watchOS 6.1 With AirPods Pro, Older Apple Watch Support

Apple is today rolling out a new update to the Apple Watch. The company is shipping watchOS 6.1 today, shortly after releasing iOS 13.2 yesterday. The company also released updates to iPadOS and tvOS this week.

The latest update to watchOS is pretty minor, but it adds support for Apple’s newest pair of earbuds. The new watchOS update enables support for AirPods Pro, so those with Apple’s new noise-cancelling earbuds will now be able to use them with their Apple Watch. The support was required so users can switch between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency modes on the AirPods Pro.

The new watchOS 6.1 update also enables support for older Apple Watch devices. watchOS 6 was originally not available to Apple Watch Series 1 and Series 2 devices, but with watchOS 6.1, Apple is enabling support for the older devices, meaning it’s now available to owners of Apple Watch Series 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
