Microsoft’s Holiday Commercial is for the Dogs

Typically, the expression “to the dogs” is used to describe something that has been ruined; you overcooked the steak, so you gave it to the dogs. But for Microsoft, they gave their holiday commercial to the dogs and if you are a fan of the furry friends, you will probably like it.

That is, unless you are Team Cat, in that case, maybe you should shield your eyes. You can watch the video above and it features all of the Microsoft staples including Surface hardware, Minecraft, Master Chief, Teams, Windows XP Bliss wallpaper, and a lot more.

The 90-second commercial will likely find its way to the cable networks and those mid-roll ad spots that YouTube shoves into every video.

Microsoft has been pushing a lot of dog-related content on Twitter lately and the company also launched their new ‘ugly sweater’ this week too. If you want to buy one of those sweaters, you can do so this year, unlike the previous years where they were only handed out to a select few.

There are so many sayings that frame dogs in a very negative light. "She/he is a dog, dog-tired, lazy as a dog, dog ugly, until the last dog is hung, dirty-dog, dog-eat-dog, dog's breath…" So dogs need some love!

There are lot of nice things people say about dogs.

“The average dog is a nicer person than the average person.” ― Andy Rooney

Of course there are pigs… “I am fond of pigs.
Had a handyman at our house doing some work (because I am definitely not handy around the house!) and as he said to me, "We don't deserve dogs." So true.

Honestly, the beauty of Team Cat is that they don’t care at all.

I feel like this concept could have been better executed. The implication of the first part of the ad is that Microsoft's products suck you in and make you neglect your pet. Which might be true, they're interesting, but that's not an angle you emphasize. Weird decision.
