Snapchat in Talks With Record Labels As It Looks to Add Music Features

Snapchat is in talks with major record labels. Snapchat’s maker Snap is in talks with some of the biggest music publishers around the world as it looks to introduce music-related features to its app.

Music-related features have been a huge hit on social media apps in recent times. TikTok has been the main catalyst behind such features, even going as far as helping songs go viral. Facebook has also been quite involved in the area, introducing a bunch of features on apps like Instagram and Facebook itself that lets users add music to their Stories, etc.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that Snap is in talks with Vivendi SA’s Universal Music Group, Sony Corp.’s Sony Music Entertainment and Access Industries Inc.’s Warner Music Group. The partnerships will allow Snap to work on similar features that will let users add music to their Snapchat Stories, for example.

The report states that Snapchat still hasn’t reached agreements with the record labels, but discussions have apparently intensified over the past few weeks.

Snapchat would be pretty late in the game with the music-related features, though. It’s not exactly known how the company plans to integrate music into its apps, but the most obvious one is letting users add song snippets to their Snapchat Stories, something which has been a major hit on Instagram.
