Facebook’s New Portal Devices Are Smaller and Support WhatsApp

Along with the new Portal TV, Facebook is launching two new regular Portal devices: the new Portal, and the Portal Mini. The company’s original Portal devices weren’t small by any means, with the regular Portal featuring a 10.1-inch display, and the Portal+ coming with a huge 15.6-inch display, which Facebook will continue to sell along with the new Portal, Portal Mini, and Portal TV.

The new Portal devices, on the other hand, are much smaller. The regular Portal now features a 10-inch display, while the smaller Portal Mini comes with an 8-inch display. These new devices are also cheaper, with the Portal Mini selling for $129, and the Portal selling for $179.

Both the devices come with Alexa support and are available in black and white finishes. They come with the same Smart Camera and Smart Sound features, can be used in landscape or portrait orientations, and for the first time ever, you can now make WhatsApp video calls on the devices. There’s even a Superframe feature that turns the device into a digital photo frame.

Facebook has also included a camera shutter and the ability to disable the microphone on the Portal devices for those concerned about privacy. WhatsApp video calls made on the Portal devices are end-to-end encrypted, while Messenger calls are encrypted in transit.

The new Portal devices are available for pre-order now, and you can even get $50 off if you buy any two Portal devices at once. Facebook is also expanding the Portal line to the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Australia and New Zealand.
