Grammarly Expands Support for Google Docs

Grammarly announced a major expansion of its add-in for Google Docs that adds a new sidebar and goal-setting panel, plus support for Grammarly Premium features.

“When we began beta testing the Grammarly browser extension in Google Docs back in 2018, we focused on delivering feedback about grammar, spelling, and punctuation,” the Grammarly announcement notes. “Today, we’re delighted to tell you that we’re bringing more of Grammarly’s advanced writing feedback on clarity, engagement, and delivery to Google Docs.”

The updated Grammarly for Google Docs will rollout in the next few weeks, the firm says, and will include:

Sidebar with notifications. The new Grammarly sidebar appears on the right and provides a list of all of Grammarly’s suggestions in one place, so you don’t need to scroll through long documents to find them all.

Premium writing suggestions. Grammarly now provides access to Premium writing suggestions on Google Docs. “In addition to Grammarly’s industry-leading spelling and grammar suggestions, clarity, engagement, and delivery suggestions will help users effectively communicate their ideas as they intended, giving them confidence in whatever they’re writing,” Grammarly explains.

Set Goals. This new feature appears as a panel in which you can set goals related to audience, formality level, and writing style to get tailored writing feedback.

To get started with Grammarly for Google Docs, you need to install the Grammarly browser extension first. Then, open a Google Doc and follow the prompts to enable Grammarly.
