Google Resumes Chrome, Chrome OS Updates

After pausing previously-planned Chrome and Chrome OS updates because of the Coronavirus, Google today revealed its new schedule.

“We’re now resuming releases with an adjusted schedule,” the Chrome Release Team writes. “Thanks everyone for the help and patience during this time.”

Here’s the new schedule:

Chromium/Chrome/Chrome OS 83. These releases will now happen three weeks earlier than the original schedule because Google canceled Milestone 82. As you might expect, they will include all of the work that would have originally gone into version 82.

Canary, Dev, and Beta channels. Each has resumed already or will this week. Milestone 83 is heading into Dev and Milestone 81 is heading to Beta. (Canary, presumably, is on M83).

Stable channel. Google will release security and critical fixes for the current (stable) versions of Chromium/Chrome/Chrome OS, which are on Milestone 80. Then, it will release Milestone 81 the week of April 7 and Milestone 83 six weeks later, in mid-May.

Milestone 84. Google says it will reveal a timeline for Milestone 84 in a future update.

I don't have a view on continuing or not continuing, but if Google stopped updates due to the corona virus and now are restarting, does Google know something the rest of the world doesn't? A reason why would be nice…

In reply to Mark from CO:

It's probably because the devs worked out the working from home problems.

They were just adjusting to the new conditions and now they’re back to work.
