Firefox Is Now Faster Than Ever Before

Firefox is today releasing Firefox 67 to introduce a bunch of new performance improvements. The company is changing how Firefox works and renders web pages to help speed things up. And according to the company, the latest release of Firefox is faster than ever before.

Firefox 67 makes it so some of the less important things on webpages are deprioritised in order for them to load faster. For example, Firefox now scans for alternative style sheets on sites after page load, and when there aren’t any forms on a webpage, the auto-fill module is not loaded. These, along with some other changes, help the main scripts for sites like Instagram, Amazon and Google execute 40-80% faster.

The latest release of Firefox also suspends idle tabs when your computer’s available memory is less than 400MB, allowing your browser to keep things smooth even with 100s of tabs open. Firefox 67 also makes it so that users with add-ons and themes now experience faster startup times.

Along with performance improvements, Firefox 67 allows users to save passwords and use add-ons on private browsing, so that should be really useful. The update also introduces the ability to stop sketchy sites from crypto mining on the background. You can get the latest release here.

I use it across the board (Windows 10, iOS, macOS) with a Firefox Account and it works really well. The only potential competitor, in my view, for cross platform compatibility, would be crEdge (once it comes out).

It loads this site a lot faster – comments used to take an age to load, now they are almost instant.
