"Other" storage is getting HUGE…is there any option beyond factory reset and then restore from backup?

Just getting a bit annoyed that the “other” part of my storage on two iDevices in my house is now greater than 50% of the total storage on the device; and there’s no obvious way to clear it up (I’ve already purged photos and seldom-used apps).

Would rather not do the backup -> factory reset -> restore dance if I don’t have to, that takes hours and lately seems a bit error-prone on my PC.

Any suggestions I may have overlooked or do I need to simply bite the bullet?
