Hi all – I’ve not needed / wanted to do this for ages, but can anyone recommend a good and safe YouTube video downloader? I remember Paul talking about one ages ago, that you pasted the URL into it, and it grabbed the video at the highest res that it could.
Thanks.

While not free, another good solution is the Replay Media Catcher by Applian. I've used it since 2008. Have never used anything else…never needed anything else. Just another option should you need one.

Just a note. Youtube is cracking down on these type of software. I don't suggest updating them ever. Videoder for android was forced to remove their youtube downloading capability in an update. I had to find an older apk and install it. ClipGrab (for Windows) is another one that I recently have had problems with so I had to uninstall it. I download a lot of youtube, especially now that they are deleting videos at a massive scale, and I've also noticed that it seems to me that Youtube is blocking downloading from their end on certain videos and not on others so its hard to tell sometimes if its the software or not. There are a lot of websites that offer downloading also, a simple "download youtube video" search will show them.
