Notifications and Site Navigation

Firefox, Chrome, Chromium and Opera all Linux: when I open the top-level www.thurrott.com site, see notifications by the top-most bell, then use the bell’s drop-down to select where to go, I can’t use the browser’s back button or [Alt]+[Left] or [Backspace] to return to www.thurrott.com. The browser remains at the article even though the address bar shows www.thurrott.com.
