Sea of Thieves is Free to Play Through this Weekend

The final beta version of Sea of Thieves—an upcoming Xbox Play Anywhere title—is free to play for the next three days. So if you’re curious whether Microsoft’s new shared-world experience is for you, now is the time to find out.

“As we head towards launch on March 20, we have one Final Beta test to run,” Rare’s Joe Neate explains. “This gives us an opportunity to grow our scale testing to our largest number yet, it allows us to test a broader range of features than ever before and it also gives anyone that is interested a chance to play and experience Sea of Thieves first-hand.”

Sea of Thieves has been in development for over a year, and Microsoft and Rare have really opened it up to a wide group for testing to ensure that it works properly. Better still, it’s exclusive to Microsoft’s platform and is cross-compatible across Windows 10 and Xbox One, and takes advantage of core platform features like 4K video and HDR.

To get started, download the Sea of Thieves Final Beta from the Microsoft Store on Xbox One or Windows 10. It requires an Xbox Live account on Windows 10 or an Xbox Live Gold account on Xbox One.

Pretty shitty game. Tried to fire up the beta, was instantly griefed and killed constantly.

WOW LOVE THAT SHIT. NOTHING BETTER THAN GETTING TREATED LIKE GARBAGE.

I don't care if it fails and the studio goes under.

Reminds me why I give ZERO SHITS about this multiplayer bullshit. It can burn in Hell until they make it so assmasters can't ruin my experience.

Unfortunately everyone I know is going to be all OMG SEA OF THIEVES PLAY WITH ME for the next nine months. And in the past, I'd inevitably try it again. And I won't get past level 1 because of griefers.

So I won't give it a second chance this time.

It's kind of fun for a bit but I got tired of it pretty quick.

The beta doesn't have all the content from the final game but what they have said is coming doesn't seem that exciting either.

I'd say it'll be great in 6-12 months with a heap more DLC added… if people are still playing then.
