Minecraft Earth Beta for Android Now Open

Microsoft’s upcoming Minecraft Earth game has been talked about a lot lately. Although Microsoft has shown off quite a bit of the new game, it’s not yet ready for a public launch. The company recently announced the closed beta for iOS back in July, and it’s now bringing the beta to Android.

The official Twitter account for Minecraft Earth announced the opening of the Android beta program, so those with an Android can now sign up for the Android beta of Minecraft Earth. The beta for Minecraft Earth for Android is likely a closed beta just like the iOS beta.

Microsoft says the Minecraft Earth beta will land on Android next week, so if you sign-up for the beta now, you may be lucky and get a chance to play the new game before everyone else. The new game is only available to those running Android 7 or newer, by the way. You can find out more about it here.

The sign up page is a bit tricky.

I had already signed up. Going to it now doesn't really say I'm signed up but instead offers to let me delete my data. I guess that means I'm definitely there and have data to delete, but it'd be nice to have a note saying "you're already signed up, blah blah" rather than have that implied

Suffice to say, the end result will look nothing like the Microsoft PR image at the top of this article – and I mean nothing. It will be pretty simplistic I assume (as per the video), and using AR on a very small screen will be extremely limiting.

Should we call this a feat of engineering, or a forgettable gimmick I wonder?
