Halo: Master Chief Collection Off to a Fast Start on PC

Not surprisingly, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is off to a fast start on the PC, even with only one game currently available.

“The long-awaited debut of Halo: The Master Chief Collection (MCC) on PC was worth the wait, thanks to the amazing Halo community as well as a host of all-new players experiencing the Halo universe for the very first time,” Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg writes. “The release of Halo: Reach in MCC on both PC and Xbox One on December 3 led to a monumental launch for the Halo franchise, with record numbers.”

Those record numbers?

 • There were nearly 3 million gamers playing Halo MCC on PC and Xbox One during the (PC) launch week. (The games are available on Game Pass so not every player was a straight-up sale.)
 • Halo MCC was the top-selling game on Steam during launch week.
 • Halo MCC was the highest-ranking debut for an Xbox Game Studios title on Steam.
 • Halo MCC was the number one most-watched game on Twitch during launch day.

Halo MCC is definitely one of the best deals in gaming at the moment. The entire series costs $39.99, but you can buy individual titles for just $9.99 each. And it’s available on Xbox Game Pass for both console and PC, so you can also play as part of your subscription.

Microsoft says it will “complete the collection” in 2020, but that’s an awfully aggressive target given that it shipped just one of the titles, Halo: Reach, this past year.

Every time I read the headline, in my head I think Master Chef. That leads to the question, what would the dishes be in the Halo Master Chef Collection?

The thing that confused me is that even being a MS game studio, this is not one of the Play Anywhere titles. I had to do a bit of searching to find that while I have it on Xbox, it does not work on PC. Still a good value though.
