Microsoft Starts Expanding Project xCloud to More European Countries

Microsoft has started expanding its cloud game streaming service, Project xCloud, to more countries. The company announced today it’s bringing the xCloud service to more countries in Western Europe as part of its Project xCloud preview.

xCloud is already available in countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. With the latest expansion, xCloud will be available in more countries than ever before.

Microsoft is bringing the xCloud preview to a total of 11 new countries in Europe. The list of new countries include:

  • Belgium
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Spain
  • Sweden

Microsoft says customers from these countries will be able to start playing using the xCloud preview on Android soon. You will have to first register your interest, and once the preview is available in your area, you will be notified to join the xCloud preview.

xCloud is coming to Western Europe at a time where large internet services are being asked to reduce strain on the internet due to the high demand caused by the COVID-19 outbreak. Microsoft claims it will only bring xCloud to these 11 new countries when it is “sensible” to do so. “We will take a measured approach to help conserve internet access, beginning the preview in each market with a limited number of people and adding more participants over time,” said Catherine Gluckstein, Head of Product for Project xCloud at Microsoft in a blog post.
