Sony Reschedules PS5 Game Showcase Event

Late last month, Sony announced an event for the PlayStation 5. The event was expected to take place on June 4, but Sony had cancelled the show with respect to the events surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement.

The company has now announced a new date for the event, and it will be taking place on June 11. The event is scheduled to be streamed at 1:00 PM PDT/08:00 PM GMT.

As Sony previously announced, the company will be showcasing new PlayStation 5 games at the event. Sony has already revealed the new PlayStation 5 controller, as well as the console’s specs, but the company is yet to reveal the games and the design of the console itself.

The event on June 11 will be focused entirely on games, so it’s unlikely we will get to see the PlayStation 5 design. “The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware,” Sony previously stated.

The game showcase is expected to run for around an hour, and Sony is recommending viewers to wear headphones for the best experience. The company warned that the pre-recorded event will be broadcast at 1080p/30fps, but the quality of PS5 games will be significantly better when you actually play them on a 4K TV.

PlayStation 5 includes some advanced audio features, so it makes sense to recommend viewers to wear headphones. “There’s some cool audio work in the show, and it might be harder to appreciate if it’s pumped through your phone or laptop speakers,” Sony said.

I appreciate Sony's attention to detail on recommending a specific watching experience. They are obviously targeting their existing audience with this message
