Microsoft Launches Cheaper Xbox Elite Series 2 Core Controller

Microsoft unveiled today a cheaper version of its Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller starting at $129.99. The new Xbox Elite Series 2 Core controller comes in white, and it’s really similar to the regular Elite Series 2 controller except, that it includes no interchangeable components and no carrying case.

The Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller comes with the same wrap-around rubberized grip, adjustable-tension thumbsticks, and shorter hair trigger locks. Users can also remap buttons in the Xbox Accessories app, and the controller also comes with a built-in battery providing 40 hours of battery life.

However, the Xbox Elite Series 2 Core controller misses everything else that comes with the standard Elite Series 2 controller, including different thumbsticks and D-pad, as well as paddles that can be attached to the back to get four additional buttons. The carrying case with its charging dock is also not included.

Microsoft is actually selling all these additional components separately with the new $59.99 Complete Component Pack, to be available starting September 21 alongside the Xbox Elite Series 2 Core controller. The interchangeable thumbsticks and D-pad, paddle shapes, carrying case, charging dock, and braided USB-C cable are all included in that package.

Microsoft also announced today that Xbox fans will be able to create a customized Xbox Elite Series 2 controller on the Xbox Design Lab during the holiday season. The company also emphasized that it has heard feedback from players complaining about reliability issues.

“We’ve heard players loud and clear and have continued to improve Elite Series 2 controllers to be more reliable than ever before with refined components that are built to last. For added peace of mind, Elite Series 2 controllers come with Microsoft’s 1-year limited warranty,” the company emphasized.

The new Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 – Core in white and the Complete Component Pack are available for pre-order today in select Xbox markets worldwide. The existing Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 in black will remain available at $179.99.
