Microsoft Announces New Mixer App for Android, iOS

Microsoft has announced a brand-new Mixer app for Android and iOS. It is available now in beta form.

“We’re thrilled to share the next step for Mixer on mobile – a completely new app for Android and iOS,” Microsoft’s Jerome Holman explains. “The new app helps us deliver more timely improvements to our fans, [using] an entirely different codebase.”

Here’s what’s new in the new Mixer beta for Android and iOS:

Easier broadcast discovery. The trending section has been redesigned to make it easier to find broadcasts of interest to you. There’s a carousel at the top that cycles through featured broadcasts, then top games and trending streams. As you navigate into games, you’ll find game hubs that list the current broadcasts of that game.

Improved performance. Everything in the app is now faster and more reliable than ever before, Microsoft says, thanks to that new code base, which provides better stability and has been optimized for mobile.

Improved personalization. The new Following section lets you see what’s happening with the broadcasters you care about, and it lists recommended streamers to check out. You can also manage settings and your channel in the Profile section.

Microsoft says that all of the features you enjoyed before in Mixer are available in the new UX, and that it will be adding some new features—like reliable push notifications, chat parity with Mixer.com, and co-streaming playback experience improvements soon.

As a beta, you can’t just download the app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Instead, you can sign-up for the Android beta here and the iOS beta here.
