Microsoft and PUBG announced today that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has surpassed 5 million gamers on Xbox One alone.
“We’re celebrating yet another milestone for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) on Xbox One: we have now passed 5M players,” PUBG’s Sammie Kang writes. “We’re very excited that the community continues to grow – reaching over 5 million players in less than 3 months is a major accomplishment and we’re happy so many of you are enjoying the game.”

PUBG’s rise is indeed impressive: The game reached three million players on Xbox in early January, just one month after its initial release. And then it hit 4 million in late January.
During that time, PUBG has improved the game dramatically in a bid to address the many complaints about its performance and quality. The firm noted today that it just shipped its ninth optimization patch, which improved vehicle feedback, sound effects, matchmaking and more. And it recently shared its short-term development roadmap so gamers know what to expect in the weeks ahead. Among the changes, of course, is the long-awaited second map, Miramar.
To celebrate this new milestone, PUBG is rewarding the community with an exclusive free in-game item, the PUBG5 jacket.
“Wear it with pride and share your screenshots and gameplay streams wearing it so we can see it in action,” Kang adds. “The PUBG5 jacket will be rewarded to all players who own and have activated a character in the game on Xbox One as of March 22, 2018 at 12:01AM PST.”
