PUBG Will Exit Preview on Xbox One on September 4

Today at gamescom 2018, Microsoft and PUBG announced that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will exit preview on September 4, 2018.

“While our team will continue to enhance the game and deliver new content to Xbox players, the full product release marks the culmination of our efforts in preview,” PUBG’s Koo Sung Jeong writes in a new post to the Xbox Wire blog. “We worked closely with Xbox and the passionate and engaged Xbox community to regularly update, tune, stabilize and enhance the PUBG experience for Xbox One over the last 9 months.”

As indicated, PUBG arrived on Xbox One in preview form nine months ago, in December 2017, and in very rough form. The game has been dogged by performance issues during the entire preview. Despite this, it has racked up several million users, with Microsoft and PUGB announcing various usage milestones along the way.

For the 1.0 release, PUBG is being updated yet again with a new map called Sanhok, a new deathmatch-style battle royale game mode called War Mode, and the introduction of in-game currency that can be used to purchase cosmetics, event passes, and other items. PUBG says that all Xbox achievements earned in the game during the preview will carry over to the shipping game as well.

In related news, Microsoft has also announced the Xbox Wireless Controller – PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS Limited Edition, which features an attractive black digital camo design. It is available for pre-order today, costs $70, and will ship on October 30.
