AMD Reveals Xbox Series X Ports – Updated with AMD Statement
It has been a big day for Xbox fans as not only has Microsoft officially shown off the next-generation CPU, we are also learning more about the console features. AMD showed off the upcoming console during their keynote and it revealed the ports that are included.
On stage at CES, AMD ran a promo video that showed off many of their upcoming products which include next-generation consoles from both Sony and Microsoft. While Sony’s name was only shown, AMD did show off the series X which includes the ports on the back of the device.

The next-generation console includes two USB-C, two HDMI ports, ethernet and of course, a power slot too. None of this is all that surprising but I am curious if Microsoft will be allowing HDMI pass-through as they have done with the current generation of consoles. It’s also hard to see but there is a port next to the ethernet jack that may be optical audio out.
The dual-HDMIs on the current-gen hardware was initially part of the big TV-integration push when the console was launched. But during its lifecycle, some of those features were removed but the hardware passthrough has remained; it looks like the feature will be sticking around for the next generation too.
The addition of two USB-C ports is helpful as this port-style is becoming more common and makes the hardware ‘future proof’ if there is such a thing. Either way, the Series X will have USB-C which will make it easier to plug in your accessories on the back of the device.
We are still missing a few key features of the next-generation console including its true performance characteristics as well as pricing. But, unlike in previous years, it doesn’t look like Microsoft is shy about holding this information back, so we may see it sooner rather than later.
