Google Brings Android Auto Support to YouTube Music

Google is adding an important feature to its music subscription service YouTube Music today. For those who use Android Auto, the latest update to the YouTube Music app will be incredibly useful as it finally brings support for the music streaming service to Android Auto.

Android Police reports that with YouTube Music support on Android Auto, you will be able to open the app directly from the Android Autio interface. From there, you can play music like you can with other services such as Spotify and Google’s own Play Music.

The interface itself is pretty simple, and everything is organized between Your Mixtape, Recommended, Last Played, Library, and Downloads. The interface seems pretty easy to browse around and navigate, and there is even a standalone mode that you can use to get an Android Auto-like experience on your phone without actually using Android Auto.

Android Auto support for YouTube Music is available with version 3.03.54 of the app on Android, and you can download it from the Play Store here.

It's about time… seriously… you would think Microsoft was running this product. Let's rebuild this from the ground up and leave out important features like this for almost a year.

I actually saw this yesterday when I was browsing through Android Auto compatible apps and say YouTube music. Didn't realise it was new to Auto? Timing…

Anyway, I have still be using Play Music – I haven't seen any reason to switch. It's not like I'm really missing any functionality – pick an artist / album / genre and let it play. Works with Google Assistant well too. Music videos are available for most songs anyway. Weird that they wrote a new app and rebranded…… That's more of a Microsoft approach? :P

In reply to IanYates82:

Same here. Once I can import my playlists to YouTube music, I plan to switch, since Play is SUPPOSEDLY going away at some point. But until I can do that, or Google forces me off of it, I'm sticking with Play.
