Google Duo Introduces Group Video Call Support on Android and iOS

Google is rolling out a new update for its video calling app Duo on Android and iOS. The company is finally introducing the ability to make group video calls on the app, so you will now be able to make your own groups on Duo and make video calls.

Google Duo lets you make group video calls with up to 8 people, which is considerably lower than FaceTime’s 32, and Skype’s 50. That’s still fine, though — Duo is mostly meant for family friends and you probably won’t be making video calls with more than 8 people at once. The feature works for users on Android and iOS.

Google is also introducing a new data saving mode for those on Android and in regions like Indonesia, India, and Brazil, which allows users to save on data usage when making video calls.

The company is also letting users personalize video messages by adding text and drawing over their videos, kind of like Snapchat. That feature is now available on Android, with iOS availability expected to arrive soon.

i Can’t believe video chat finally caught on. I first saw it at the 1962 Seattle worlds fair. We were so jazzed about it. We wanted to talk to my grandparents in Wyoming.

My family and I have been using Duo for almost 3 years now for individual calls, and it's worked nearly flawlessly across different devices, different OSes, and even different hemispheres. I hope/expect that the group chat mode will work as smoothly, it's a nice addition to the app.
