HP Expands Pavilion With New Laptops, Desktops, Gaming Machines

HP is announcing a bunch of new Windows-powered devices today after unveiling the world’s first detachable Chromebook earlier in the week. The company is announcing new, mid-range devices for its Pavilion line of products, introducing next-gen products with “premium features and design.” Along with the regular Pavilion devices, HP is announcing new Pavilion gaming machines for gamers who have limited budgets and don’t need a lot of power.

First, let’s talk about the regular Pavilion devices:

• Pavilion x360s: HP is introducing the new Pavilion x360 14 and 15 convertible devices with a refreshed design, powered by Intel’s 8th gen dual/quad core i5 and i7 processors. The devices come with optional discrete graphics, and buyers can go with the Nvidia MX130 GPU on select Pavilion x360 14 models, or the AMD Radeon 530 GPU on the bigger Pavilion x360 15 models. Both the devices now come with “sophisticated” new colours, and buyers can get them in Natural Silver, Pale Gold, or Sapphire Blue. The x360 14 goes on sale next month for $499, while the bigger x360 15 will sell for $579 in May.
• Pavilion Notebooks: HP is updating the regular Pavilion Notebooks, too. The new Pavilion 14 and 15 now come with Intel’s 8th gen Core processors, offer up to 11.75 hours of battery life, and up to 512GB of SSD storage. HP is also offering buyers with AMD’s Rzyen Mobile processors with Radeon Vega GPUs instead of the regular Intel processors on select models. The company has slightly tweaked the look of the devices, now coming in new colours including Mineral Silver, Pale Gold, Sapphire Blue, Velvet Burgundy, Tranquil Pink, and Ceramic White. The Notebook 14 goes on sale in June for $369, while the Notebook 15 will start and $629 and go on sale late May.
• Pavilion Desktops: Last but not least, HP is refreshing the design of its Pavilion Desktops today. The company says its new design for the Pavilion portfolio features “10% depth reduction” without compromising performance, and the improved design of the bezels on the front panels will help these devices fit in perfectly in your modern home. The desktops, which start at only $329, come with Intel’s 8th gen Core processors, and Nvidia GTX 1060. And if you aren’t a fan of Intel, you can go with the 2nd AMD Ryzen processors and Radeon RX 580 GPUs. The new desktops go on sale later this month.

And now, here’s a breakdown of the new Pavilion Gaming machines. HP’s Pavilion Gaming machines are essentially its more affordable gaming machines, so don’t expect high-end specs that you’d usually see on its Omen line of gaming machines.

• Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15: HP’s new Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15 comes with Intel’s new 6 core 8th gen Core i7 H-series processors. Intel’s new H-series mobile processors are effectively a lighter version of the full-fledged H series chips. These new chips are capable of offering up to up to 41% FPS in games, and edit 4K video up to 59% faster than the previous generation of processors according to Intel. With the new Pavilion Gaming Laptop, you can get up to a 4K display with refresh rates of up to 144Hz on the 1080p model. The device also lets buyers choose between the Nvidia GTX 1060 and the AMD Radeon RX 560X. Starting at $799, the device will be available in late May.
• Pavilion Gaming Desktops: HP is introducing its new Pavilion Gaming desktops, the 690 and 790 today. Both the devices are extremely similar, offering Intel’s 7 core 8th gen Core i7+ processors. For the GPUs, buyers can choose between the GeForce GTX 1070 and the AMD Radeon RX 580. Storage wise, you can get up to 3TB HDD, or up to 512GB NVMe SSD on both the devices. The main difference between the Pavilion Gaming 690 on the Gaming 790 is the RAM capacity — on the 690, you can get up to 16GB of RAM, while the bigger 790 offers up to 64GB of RAM. The Gaming 690 Desktop goes on sale on April 15 starting $649, while the Gaming 790 Desktop starts at $649 and goes on sale in June.
• Pavilion Gaming 32 HDR: HP is also launching a new $449 monitor today. The 32-inch monitor comes with support for FreeSync, and a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels with 75Hz refresh rates and 5ms response times. The display can push up to 600 nits of brightness and goes on sale in May.

Most of these new updates aren’t huge, but the design changes and next-gen processors should be welcomed by those looking for a premium experience without looking to spend a lot.
