Snap Announces New Spectacles

Snap today announced a new generation of its Spectacles camera sunglasses that adds still photo capabilities and water resistance. The only downside? At $150, they are $20 more expensive than the previous version.

Oh, and they still look ridiculous.

“Spectacles are now more comfortable to wear with a smaller profile, and they’re water resistant,” the Snap announcement explains. “Tap the button to record video with new and improved audio, and now, you can press and hold to take a photo! Snaps you capture will transfer to Snapchat up to four times faster, and always in HD.”

The new Spectacles are touted as “hands-free,” but you must, of course, use your hand to begin recording; it’s not voice-activated. They are water resistant down to one meter for 30 minutes, and can capture up to 70 videos on a single charge. The included case will charge the glasses up to four times.

They are available now in ruby, sapphire, and onyx colors with your choice of different lens colors.

Is there a color option for “not there?” ;)

Edit: Something about the hero image on the homepage. The position of the hands, it’s so unnatural, like whoever opened that didn’t expect what they found.

”Hey, what’s in this box… Whaaaat… It’s just some lousy glasses!”

Who wants to want round video and photos.

Walled Garden: Every Photo on Snap Chat App

Cumbersome process to transfer the photo/video to the phone.

overall still a poor resolution and poor picture quality.

My predication. This version will repeat the fate of the previous release.
