Sonos Teases New OS and App for Its Speakers

Sonos is revealing the future of its platform this week. The company is teasing Sonos S2, which will be the building block for its next-generation hardware, as well as most of the existing ones.

Sonos S2 will introduce a new operating system for the company’s speakers, as well as a new app. Sonos is not revealing what features the new update will introduce, but it’s promising big things.

The new update will be available to Sonos devices as an over-the-air update, and it will introduce support for higher resolution audio formats and increased audio bandwidth. The new Sonos app that will launch along with Sonos S2 will also allow users to set up custom room groups.

The update will be seamless for most Sonos users, but it could cause a bit of complication for those with some devices that are compatible with Sonos S2 and some that are not compatible with the new system. Sonos has detailed how that could work for those users, but the company will continue to support older devices with security fixes and bug fixes when needed. It will also keep the current Sonos app, and call it the S1 Controller app once the new Sonos S2 app launches.

For now, details on the Sonos S2 system is pretty limited, but Sonos plans on officially launching the new update in June, and it will hopefully reveal more details closer to the time.

It will only get my approval if I can 'love' Apple Music songs. The current software can't do that and makes it pretty useless if you want to personalise your experience.
