Microsoft Brings Minecraft: Education to the iPad

Microsoft is expanding Minecraft: Education into new platforms. The company says Minecraft has been a critical part of its Education push, and so it’s making the product way more accessible.

Minecraft: Education Edition is coming to the iPad sometime in September. With Minecraft: Education Edition on the iPad, students and teachers will be able to use the app on their iPad devices. They will also have access to tutorials and free class resources that are available on Minecraft: Education Edition on other platforms.

And secondly, Microsoft is making Minecraft’s Education edition more accessible to all users. The consumer version of Minecraft will now include a new Education toggle that will enable anyone to use the Education Edition whenever they want. Students will specifically be able to access the Chemistry Resource Pack for Windows 10 PC and Xbox simply by enabling a toggle when creating a new world on the consumer version of Minecraft, for example.

“With these updates, now educators and families are able to use Minecraft to engage students in STEM, inspire creative projects across subjects, and build important skills in collaboration, creativity and digital citizenship,” a Microsoft spokesperson said. Minecraft’s Education Edition coming to the iPad makes a lot of sense, especially since Apple has been pushing its Education efforts with a cheaper new iPad aimed at students and schools. Minecraft: Education Edition is obviously just a small part of Microsoft Education, though it’s been a core part of making its Education products more accessible to more students and schools, especially younger children.
