Google’s New Assistant Interface Starts Going Beyond English

Along with the launch of the Pixel 4 line, Google introduced a completely new interface for the Google Assistant. The new Assistant interface on the Pixel 4 introduced a simplified interface that’s a lot slicker than before, though there were some initial limitations.

Not only did the new Assistant interface require users to have a Pixel 4, but it only started off by being only available to users with their phone language set to US English. Slowly, Google expanded that to other variations of English like UK English. So far, though, it’s only been limited to English users.

And now, for the first time, the new Assistant interface on the Pixel 4 is going beyond English — starting with Japanese (via Android Police). Those in Japan will now be able to use the new Assistant on their Pixel 4 devices, and it will work just like it does with English, allowing for continued conversation features, etc. The next-generation Assistant also works completely on-device, which is definitely a major security benefit.

The rollout of the new Assistant interface on the Pixel 4 in Japan comes along with the support for Pixel 4’s Motion Sense feature, too. But do keep in mind that your device will need to be running version 10.73 or newer of the Google app for the new Assistant to work, and your phone’s language will only need to be set to Japanese (and you can’t have any other secondary languages) for the new feature to work.
