New Pixel 3 Lite Leak Reveals More Details

Rumors about a cost-reduced Pixel 3 Lite have been circulating for months. But the latest leak reveals some new details, including a plastic body. And yes, a headphone jack.

This new leak comes in the form of a very detailed YouTube video in which the device can be clearly seen from all angles. According to the leak, the Pixel 3 Lite will look visually very similar, if not identical, to the existing Pixel 3. But it will be made of plastic, not metal and glass, and will be released, according to the narrator, “in the spring after the Google IO conference.”

As the name suggests, the Pixel 3 Lite is a “cheaper version of the Pixel 3,” with a mid-tier Snapdragon processor 670 processor, 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, a 12.2 MP rear camera, and a 2915 mAh battery. The 5.5-inch display features a tall 18:9 aspect ratio and a 2160 x 1080 resolution.

There are minor visual differences when compared to the Pixel 3: The power button is a different color, for example, and the SIM tray is on a different side of the device. More important is that the rear camera lacks an auto-focus sensor, while the Pixel 3 Lite has only one front camera compared to the Pixel 3’s two. And there’s only a single mono speaker on the bottom, not stereo speakers.

The best news, aside from the expected cost savings? The Pixel 3 Lite includes a headphone jack. That alone will make me consider this phone.

Looking over this, the processor is an unknown, the storage will be a sticking point for many. Especially since Google doesn’t provide microSD expansion in any of its phones.

Maybe I am being dismissive but I sure hope it comes in other colors because that vomit purple plastic case doesn't exactly instill confidence. What are the specs of a Pixel 2 again?

I really hate how companies act is if a 32 gb storage chip costs much more than the next size up does. Going from 32gb to 64gb is really only a few dollars and it pays for itself with less customer issues where it ends costing the companys that skimp here on not only calls to a call center for help but just customers with a less that good feeling about the phone that won't work currectly since it has 0 space for updates and to store things from photos to videos to lists.

Looking for contenders to replace my wife's SGS6 and my 1+3… if this is under the $500 mark then it may work out. Still not a notch fan… but everything else looks pretty good on this.

32 Gigs is as bad as 64 gigs for a windows device.

In reply to jaredthegeek:

I agree. If there is no SD card slot, I assume there isn't, then 64 GB should be the lowest memory option these days.

This is Great News! For one, I LOVE headphone jacks on my phone. I am a big Spotify offline user and I prefer inexpensive Skullcandy earphones that I can pick up anywhere and not have to charge.

Furthermore, I think there is going to be a BIG MARKET for mid market Android phones that have GREAT cameras. I currently have a Galaxy S8 which is overkill in many respects as the features I like most are a SUPERB camera, good battery life, a decent scream, and expandable storage. Just like I usually only purchase midrange Intel 5 powered laptops with Intel graphics (I have no need for Intel 7 powered computers with 3rd party graphic accelerators) I look forward to being able to purchase a mid range phone that serves my everyday use.

I doubt I would be in the market for a Pixel Lite since on SD card expansion. However, once Google validates this product category I am sure someone will introduce a similar priced device with SD card (Motorola, Samsung, LG).

Oh, I also use Verizon, which means international versions of other mid range devices won't work for me. Nor will the One Plus.

A plastic phone! Hot damn, that's the best thing I've seen in ages.

Hilarious that the cheaper phone will be using the material best suited for the application, when the more expensive ones don't.

It maybe 'light' by name, but it's going to have to be light by price as well to make people consider it. I really hope Google distance it from the 3XL by positioning it at the lower end. Maybe this device will be a natural successor to Nexus, or be the start of a new wave of devices with consumer friendly pricing. Personally, the plastic body doesn't bother me. Neither do the (slightly) inferior cameras. 64GB storage would have been nice if there isn't any microSD slot, but hey, you can't have everything!

In reply to skane2600:

Plastic is actually way more practical than glass. Glass is considered luxurious but then it's so fragile that you put it in a plastic case anyway!

In reply to skane2600:

Exactly. Most will put a case on the phone anyway, and then the body material becomes pretty irrelevant. Plastic will be more grippy too – glass is so slippery!

I was seriously going to get the Pixel 3 and your articles and others on the net convinced me that it was best avoided and I have got the Huawei P20 Pro and it's exceptional. I have never been happier with the photos I have taken with this phone.

People really just want the "Pixel" camera experience at a lower price point. If Google gimped the camera in any way (as it appears they have) then there is a high likelihood that the YouTube reviewers will all jump on that fact and DESTROY this product in the eyes of many potential buyers.

In reply to JG1170:

Let's reserve judgement until the reviews are in. For many, the camera isn't that big a deal. As long as the photos are quick to take a clear, most don't care, although I appreciate for some, the camera is very important, but if that's the case, you'll be spending a lot more on a phone.
