Surface Book, Surface Laptop Line Get New Firmware Updates

Microsoft is rolling out new firmware updates for some devices on the Surface line. The company started rolling out a new set of firmware updates for a couple of Surface devices last night.

These updates are coming to the Surface Laptop 2, Surface Laptop, Surface Book 2, Surface Book, and the Surface Pro 4 (via WBI). The firmware updates for all the devices include fixes for Surface UEFI. More notably, Microsoft says the updates resolve “potential security vulnerabilities”.

Here are the changelogs (spoiler: they are almost identical, except the version number):

 • Surface Laptop 2: Surface UEFI – Firmware (137.2706.768.0) resolves potential security vulnerabilities, including Microsoft security advisory 190013.
 • Surface Laptop: Surface UEFI – Firmware (137.2706.768.0) resolves potential security vulnerabilities, including Microsoft security advisory 190013.
 • Surface Book 2: Surface UEFI – Firmware (389.2706.768.0) resolves potential security vulnerabilities, including Microsoft security advisory 190013.
 • Surface Book: Surface UEFI – Firmware (91.2706.768.0) resolves potential security vulnerabilities, including Microsoft security advisory 190013.
 • Surface Pro 4: Surface UEFI – Firmware (108.2706.768.0) resolves potential security vulnerabilities, including Microsoft security advisory 190013.

These updates should be automatically available for your device on Windows Update, if not make sure to check for updates to grab the latest fixes from Mirosoft’s update servers. You can also find the changelogs for the latest Surface firmware updates here.

Incidentally they also resuscitated my mother's Surface Book (1) that would get the black screen of death if left to go to deep sleep. It now has no problem.

So this is a big for some of us.

My Surface Pro 4 has not been updated to Windows 1903. The update page says my "device isn't quite ready for it." I've tried removing the SD card, but that made no difference. Ran the update troubleshooter and the Surface Diagnostic Tool. No problems found. Tried to run the Windows Updater, but it would not update.

Anyone else having this issue?
