Tips and picks

Tip of the week: Games, games, games

Microsoft has revealed the Xbox Game Pass games and Games for Gold titles for May!

App pick of the week: Pure Text

PureText is a tiny tray utility that removes all text formatting from your clipboard and optionally pastes the resulting pure text to the active window with a single hotkey. Thanks to Jeff for the tip! (You can get it on the web too)

Also: Simplify for Chrome fixes Gmail

Enterprise pick of the week: Windows Server 1903

Microsoft has been testing the 1903 (Semi-Annual Channel) Windows Server release right alongside Win 10 1903. But there’s been very little public sharing about what’s going to be in this thing when it comes out in late May. Finally: A blog post talking about Server 1903. (not overly exciting, but it’s a “sneak peek”)

Codename pick of the week: Cosine

Cosine is the way MS folks are referring to the “Core OS & Intelligent edge.” (Edge is lower case e in this case.) We aren’t going to hear about Windows Lite – which is powered by WCOS – at Build. But HoloLens 2 is a WCOS device, too. So maybe we’ll get some new insights on what the Cosine team has been doing soon, including how they intend to get Win32 apps on Lite (word is virtualization/containers).

Beer pick of the week: Holy Mountain Brewing Witchfinder

Another Seattle-based brewery beer pick, especially for those of you going to Build next week. Holy Mountain makes some really great beers, especially saisons. Witchfinder is their fermented with brett to give it that refreshing sour tang.
