Tips and picks

Tip of the week: Save big at the Xbox Backward Compatibility sale

Its time to stock up on Call of Duty!

Plus: Google has some good advice for account security.

App pick of the week: Simplify for Gmail

I’m currently testing the Simplify browser plug-in for Gmail as an alternative to the terribleness of Windows 10 Mail.

Plus: Your Phone Companion for Android now supports cellular data sync.

Enterprise pick of the week: A banned-passwords tool from Microsoft

This Azure AD feature, the Azure Active Directory Banned password list, is meant to help orgs avoid easily guessable passwords. It works with both Azure AD and on-premises AD. It also works with proprietary password filters in your company. Thanks to Microsoft’s Mark Morowczynski (@markmorrow) for the tip.

“Codename” pick of the week: Windows 10 EVD

There’s a special multiuser version of Windows 10, known as Win 10 Enterprise Virtual Desktop (EVD). It’s the complement to Win 10 Virtual Desktop (WVD). EVD will be part of cloud solution provider products like Citrix Workspace. But the catch is the virtual machines where EVD is installed must be hosted on Azure.

Beer pick of the week: Evil Twin’s Miami’s Finest

In honor of Paul’s Miami visit, here’s Evil Twin’s Miami’s Finest. Evil Twin is a Brooklyn based brewery. Miami’s Finest is a “pastry stout,” meaning an imperial stout that includes dessert like ingredients and/or flavors. This one is “conditioned on Cave Matured Coffee Sap, Macaroon Extra Special Coconut, & Heritage Scandinavian Vanilla Beans.” Brewed in collab with J. Wakefield. Clocks in at a whopping 15.5%

Paul, thank you for leading the discussion on Huawei.

I am Canadian, 2 of our 3 major carriers use Huawei networking.

I agree with your opinion that US government do not have proof that Huawei is spying or owned by Chinese government.

Many countries are still moving ahead with Huawei.

I do think Huawei likely reverse engineered some Cisco technology, however, did Microsoft not steal some of their technology from others!!!

Wonder if Nokia and Erricsson will spy on US? Huawei, Nokia and Erricsson are the main providers for carriers, Cisco as well in the core of the network.

I hope sanity comes back soon
