Lenovo Smart Clock is Now Available

The $80 Lenovo Smart Clock is now available for purchase at Best Buy and Walmart in the United States. The first smart clock based on Google Assistant will also be available in the UK and Australia later this week, with more countries coming onboard later in 2019.

“We teamed up with Lenovo to build the Assistant into a new alarm clock purpose-built for your bedroom.,” Google’s Mert Topcu writes. “The Lenovo Smart Clock comes with a sleek 4-inch interactive touchscreen and blends into your bedroom décor. While you’ll get many of the same Assistant features you’re already familiar with on other devices, the Smart Clock includes a few new tricks to help you get a good night’s rest and start your day right.”

This isn’t the first time that Google has partnered with Lenovo on a new Assistant hardware category: In 2018, Lenovo shipped the first Assistant-powered smart displays months before Google released its own Google Home Hub.

Based on my early experiences, the Lenovo Smart Clock is a great solution, and the price seems right. In addition to functioning as a tiny smart display, the Smart Clock suggests alarm times based on your schedule, offers a Sunrise Alarm that adjusts the display’s brightness in the 30 minutes leading up to that alarm, and let’s you snooze an alarm simply by saying “stop”; no “Hey Google” is required.

The Smart Clock also transitions to a dark display at night so it doesn’t impact your sleep. And it provides a built-in USB port so you can use it to charge your phone.

The Lenovo Smart Clock costs $80 and will be available at Best Buy and Walmart this week.

I have bedrooms with Google Home Minis in them. I could use 2 or 3. I might just wait till Oct. when Google does their event before buying so I can see if they are releasing anything like this.

I really like this device. Small screen for displaying minimal information. If I had a smart doorbell this would be a no brainer. I currently have an Insignia Google speaker (it was on sale for $25) that displays the time and outside temperature and I like it as the sound is really nice on it. I will be migrating to this as I prefer the form factor and functionality. It would be nice if you could have it tap into your Google pictures as well but I am sure that will come later. Maybe move the Insignia speaker to the Kitchen for when I am cleaning or cooking until I replace that with a Smart Display.
