Site Performance and Update
Howdy Members,
We have been experiencing site instability all day and are working through the issues. Earlier today, we sent an email to all members sharing this information but I want to be sure that we are communicating as transparently and quickly as possible. We have made significant progress ... the site has stabilized, and performance is much faster. There are outstanding issues that we are working through and therefore we appreciate your continued patience. Some of those issues include broken profile images for some members.
Additionally, some good news. We have made significant progress toward implementing the new commenting system. It is live on our staging environment and we are testing historical comment migration. I am excited to finally see basic functionality for comments, as well as nee notification features. We are close!

Updated 6/25/2022 @ 9am ET - Thurrott Relaunch Status
Howdy Community Members,
We want to share a brief update on our Thurrott Relaunch Project.
- As part of the Thurrott Relaunch Project, the site will be offline in maintenance mode Saturday morning (US ET Time) as we make updates to key parts of our platform, the Thurrott.com Core. These updates will bring our CMS, Transaction Processing, and CMS Plugins up to date. This is a key milestone and foundational for the upcoming site improvements. This maintenance outage is not expected to last more than 3 hours. I will update the community in this thread following successful completion. These types of updates can create unforeseen issues and while we will be carefully testing the updates, we appreciate your feedback to [email protected] should you encounter challenges.
- As we shared in our recent updates via email and the AMA event, our project plan is agile, so that we can adjust to insights and knowledge gained during the process. Prioritizing this weekend’s Thurrott Core Update is an example of such a change. Pausing for this weekend’s maintenance work is a prudent re-sequencing of the project plan.
- Within the next couple of weeks, we will launch the new OpenWeb comment system. After collaboration and analysis with our internal team and external partners, we are optimistic that we can launch the much improved commenting experience very soon without losing commenting history and without taking down the forum posting functionality, as was previously expected. You may have recently experienced additional outages or site slowdowns. Our technical analysis during these most recent occurrences points us to issues with the spam moderation plugin that is creating a serious performance ‘drain’. OpenWeb implementation part of our new Phase 2.0 will feature advanced AI moderation tools.
- Additionally, we no longer expect to pause new basic or Premium membership enrollment during the relaunch phase. We will continue to optimize our plans and communicate updates as we go.
- Phase 1.0 – Thurrott.com Core Update [Saturday]
- Phase 2.0 – New Comment System and site performance & stability improvements [in approximately 2 weeks]
- Phase 3.0 – New site theme. Many additional site issues will be resolved and additional improvements in performance [July/August]

Paul's weekly Premium Newsletter was sent at approximately 2:30pm ET today. I am sharing this update so that members can be on the lookout for potential 'send/receive' issues. If you have an issue, please contact us at [email protected] and we will work to resolve it ASAP. We will also keep this thread alive for a while to communicate updates on this topic and provide some guidance when applicable.
The primary root causes that we have encountered are with members who had unsubscribed or whose email had bounced. If you suspect that you may have 'unsubscribed', after logging into the site please go to https://www.thurrott.com/resubscribe.

Pixel 6 Pro Bluetooth Calling Woes
howdy everyone,
I have a Pixel 6 Pro (actually I have had 3!) where the Bluetooth connection to my cars and earbuds simply disconnects "in the middle of calls". I have this issue in 3 different cars and 3 different earbud brands. I have attempted everything imaginable: factory resets, unpairing all Bluetooth devices and then re-pairing, ensuring I have the latest system updates, etc ... No luck.
I have reached out to Google on several occasions and go around in circles with them. Aside from this issue, I really like this phone. There have been a few quirky bugs but they are tolerable. The phone disconnecting is not tolerable.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Ads, Forum SPAM
Premium Members,
Over the weekend, we experienced a resurgence of SPAM on our forums and that only hampered our progress in resolving the Ad issue. Therefore, we have temporarily suspended display ads running on the entire site while we continue to work with our ad partner to resolve the issue.
Regarding the SPAM issue, we have put a moderation review process in place on new forum posts and comments, that 'may' place a slight delay on posts appearing live. Once again, we appreciate the patience you have demonstrated while we have been dealing with these issues.
