Good morning Paul,
I began working in technology well over a 30 years ago. I have been following you since this week in tech launched.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your John C Dvorak-like style and curmudgeon behavior against marketing hype. I don’t understand where you get your endurance to be optimistic about technologies of Microsoft since their behavior is so predictable.
This is why I love your dark humor that comes in to play months after their announcements, and when you toss out those zingers where you show their hypocrisy.
I also appreciate your suggestions for audiobooks. Whether it’s the Suarez thriller Deamon or the Stephen King book 11 / 22 / 63, I agree with you in so many things. I have listened to that book 3 times in full. Everything about it represents King and his capabilities:
Multiple plots running in parallel,
Never losing track of plot characteristics,
Multiple characters and their development they go through.
His amazing at describing people and places seems to transport you to the experience.
All of it is amazing.
That’s why I was kind of shocked while I was watching Twitter grow into a “thing“ to see Stephen King go into Trump Derangement - his scathing rant against President Trump, it’s like a machine gun that has a magazine which wraps around the earth five times. His Twitter feed continues to ramble how horrible President Trump is.
It does not take an economics genius author to realize diplomacy. His readership bleeds into all political party loyalists. Yet his knee-jerk reaction and his visceral hatred towards Trump is not just a one-off drunken platitude in the middle of the night. He consistently and endlessly complains about the terror he feels about Trump. His single obsession over his impression of what President Trump is is shocking. It honestly makes me believe that the person writing those books is somehow psychopathically disassociated with the reality of human beings in real life. His tweets are essentially alienating him from potentially half of his readership and half of his income. A more intelligent person would keep his mouth shut and allow his money to go into a foundation funding his fears against Trump. Instead it just goes on and on.
To not see the other side of the political spectrum and the corruption which is Trump’s foil, that Trump voters are voting against the Democratic Socialism is like watching Charlie Sheen justify his breakdown while his blood was pumping with crack.
So while Stephen King seems to stand on his solitary hill, kicking out book after book, his emotional childlike trolling, and Twitter feed proves to be one of a tormented self-hating person who foists upon a real life character his fear. In fact the only thing that Trump has done to effect his life is he has only helped his income and retirement money.
I guess I too would be frightened if my only source of information were CNN and the other main stream news.
But one should look at themselves after 7,000 or 10,000 tweets showing hatred towards one single human and says to themselves “maybe 10,000 tweets means there’s some sort of problem going on here?”
I mean he is worse than Trump because of the intensity of hatred and the free time on his hands.
He might go on “Will this Twitter problem I have change the impression in my readers and should I maybe stop the hatred!”
“Should I use my money and influence to bring back classic literature in the public education system and help the less fortunate people learn history in education in the future? Can I start Charter school funding ? I should spend my time teaching kids how to learn and read.”
This would be a worthy foundation instead, he rants about how horrible President Trump is.
Kong’s mentally ill. And it’s unfortunate because he’s such an amazing author in so many ways.
Thank you for writing the way you do and keep going on. Don’t get too caught up in your head.
You’re a Dad and have along standing role with your family and kids to keep you off of the dementia trail.
Exercise by walking early with your wife, eat less proportions, drink more water and YouTube humor twice a day.
