Windows 10 Version 1809 Surpasses 20 Percent Usage Share

The latest AdDuplex report shows that Windows 10 version 1809 usage share has hit 21 percent, almost double the usage from a month ago.

“This number is almost double of what we’ve seen last month, but it’s still far away from the dominating April 2018 Update,” the AdDuplex report notes. “With only a few months to go until the next Windows 10 update is supposed to go mainstream, it is unclear if some PCs may have to install two major updates within a short period of time or go straight from … to [the next version upgrade].”

I don’t normally highlight this part of AdDuplex’s monthly report, but the Windows 10 version usage history chart is particularly interesting because you can so easily see how slowly Windows 10 version 1809 has rolled out so far compared to previous versions.

In other news, AdDuplex also looked at Surface PC usage. Of the most recently updated or released PCs, the most interesting change is for Surface Go, which has hit double-digit usage share of 10 percent and is now the fourth most popular Surface model by usage. Surface Pro 6 is in fifth place with 7.84, and Surface Laptop is way back in 12th place, with just 1.5 percent share.

The lack of share for Surface Laptop is quite surprising given the positive reviews despite older tech.

Give it some USB-C ports and cut the price by $200 – it should sell

Or, very bad from my own POV, IT shops won't touch it because it's 3:2 rather than 16:9. If it's the latter, no amount of price reduction would help its market share.

In reply to hrlngrv:

Most larger businesses want a RANGE of devices. (including laptops and often desktops) Many of them cheaper than the premium models that mainly make up the Surface range.

They also only want to deal with one supplier (who gives them a good discount over their range for the volume).

At work essentially every PC laptop purchased (several hundred a year) are ordered with docks – everything is USB-C and/or TB3. (The MacBooks we have also use the same Dell docks).

In reply to BigM72:

make it 360, and it will be the only 360 laptop on the market with a usable portrait screen.

I have been looking for years for a light 360 yoga laptop with 3:2. Not a top heavy detachable like surface book… One that is a true laptop, but can rotate for video watching and document viewing/reading in portrait mode….

I think that's what I did.

Given that for most people version updates are entirely under the control of Microsoft, I don't see why this is important. It's not a measure of acceptance among users and I doubt that any software is going to list version 1809 among its requirements.

The number would be higher if it wasn't riddled with hardware incompatibility issues for various network adaptors. I tried it 2 different ways but networking is on the fritz with this version. Waiting for the next big thing…

Seems to me Microsoft opened up the taps on the 1809 upgrade in the last week or two. I left three machines in this house to update in their own good time. They've all updated within the last four days or so.
