Windows 10’s Phone Mirror Feature Could Arrive This Week

Microsoft announced a new Phone Mirror feature for Windows 10 back in October of last year. The company is reportedly planning to launch the new feature as soon as this week, allowing Insiders to try out the new feature on their Windows 10 device.

ZDNet reports that Microsoft could start testing the new feature as soon as this week.

The feature will allow users to see their phone’s screen on their Windows 10 device, and interact with their device by using their mouse and keyboard right from their Windows 10 device. Microsoft has already started implementing the feature into the Your Phone app on Windows 10, with a Twitter user managing to get an early look at the splash screen for the new feature:

Elsewhere, MSPoweruser is reporting that the phone mirroring feature will only work with some Android devices. Specifically, the feature will only apparently work with the Galaxy S9/S9+ and S8/S8+, to begin with. Your PC will also need to support Bluetooth with Low Energy Peripheral mode for the feature to work. The blog also claims that the feature will be limited to the Surface Go when it first launches for Insiders.

Microsoft will likely share the official announcement for the feature’s release sometime this week, so we will keep you posted once things are official.

That is kinda odd that they are limiting the feature to the Surface Go to start. One would think Microsoft would limit it to the entire Surface product line and not just the Go.

In reply to rmlounsbury:

They’re tying it to a relatively new protocol it seems. Very possible those systems don’t have Bluetooth chips that allow LP Peripheral mode.

Not sure why a direct USB connection isn’t supported but hey, who needs reliability when Bluetooth exists?

Will this be able to work with an iPhone at some point, or is that something that Apple is preventing?

This feature rocks. Welcome to having ALL apps on the big screen. We can leave our phones in a drawer if we want.

I would guess the issue of limited devices has to do with compatible tech to support it.

I don't get it. Perhaps if it offered a DeX / continuum type desktop experience for phone apps to display off screen, but a mirror for your phone screen???

In reply to ben55124:

It's a no brainer. This means instant access to any app on the phone with a full keyboard. Its quite brilliant. No special dev work needed by the app developer – MS has created the framework to make it happen.

In reply to ben55124:

Not Meh. There are so many times I have wanted to access an app that is not on the pc and if I can fully ontrol my phone through the my phone app then I effectively have instant access to all apps and no longer need to grab my phone to work with them. It is a great feature in this regard. If it does not work for iOS I will most likely get a compatible Samsung phone just to have this capability.
