Window 10 Now Lets You Mirror Your Android Phone’s Screen

Microsoft is releasing a new build of Windows 10 19H1 to Insiders in the Fast Ring today. The company is shipping build 18356 to Insiders, and it comes with some minor bug fixes and improvements.

But more importantly, the company is announcing a major update to the Your Phone app. As expected, Android users will be able to mirror their phone’s screen on their Windows 10 devices. You will be able to interact with your phone from your PC through the Your Phone app as well.

There are some limitations, though.

The feature is only going to be available for Surface Go users for the time being. The feature actually requires Bluetooth with Low Energy Peripheral mode on a PC for it to work, and Microsoft is only starting with the Surface Go to test the feature with Insiders. Furthermore, you will also need to have the Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+/S9/S9+ devices to be able to use the feature.

The new feature is available with version 1.0.20701.0 or newer of the Your Phone app. You can check out the full set of requirements and known issues for the feature here.

Why has this taken so long, and why is it so limited? There are already other phone mirroring solutions out there. Surely a company the size of Microsoft can make this happen in a timely manner. Jeesh.

In reply to prjman:

It's admittedly been a while since I've looked at the options, but I'm not familiar with any other mirroring solution that offers this level of control with so little effort. The last time I was looking you had to install special drivers on the PC, at minimum. In most cases, the phone had to be connected via USB for it to work. This seems like a pretty big step up from that.

can't wait, I hate the apponly trend where you must use your phone, instead a comfortable big screen, mouse and real keyboard

I don't recall the WinBlog post stating a Galaxy phone requirement. I was all excited for nothing.
