Microsoft Releases Minor Patch for Windows 10 May 2019 Update to Insiders

Microsoft is expected to start rolling out the next major update for Windows 10, the May 2019 Update, sometime later this month. It has been testing the update with Insiders in the Release Preview ring for a couple of weeks, and it has already released two quality updates for it.

And just ahead of the upcoming rollout of the update, Microsoft has pushed the third quality update for the May 2019 update to Insiders in the Release Preview and Slow rings. The release is quite odd as Microsoft usually doesn’t push any updates over a weekend, but here we are.

The update, KB4505057, bumps the May 2019 update to build 18362.116 and comes with only 2 bug fixes:

  • Addresses an issue that may prevent access to some gov.uk websites that don’t support HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) when using Internet Explorer 11 or Microsoft Edge.
  • Addresses an issue in which installation may fail with the error, “0x800f081f – CBS_E_SOURCE_MISSING.”

There doesn’t seem to be any known issues for the build, so if you want to get your hands on the next major version of Windows 10 before everyone else, you probably won’t have much to worry about if you were to install it on your main machine. Microsoft will likely start the public rollout of the update sometime later this month, so keep an eye out for it. The update will be rolled out in different phases, so don’t expect it to hit your device on day 1.

<p>Hmmm…Microsoft updating WIndows on a Sunday? Is there precedent for that happening when it wasnt an emergency in the past? I tend to agree with @Jim_MAY in that I think this is an indication the release is coming this week.</p>

<p>I think many are past caring now. If this update has ANY significant issues during rollout, Microsoft will be in for a total mauling, and Windows 10's already shaky reputation will tank. Best advice, unless you're slightly sadistic or like some pain, if you can, defer it for at least a month – if not longer.</p>

<blockquote><em><a href="#429302">In reply to ghostrider:</a></em></blockquote><p>I think the release of 1903 will be interesting to watch. General feedback I have read is that 1903 is generally seen favorably. I dont disagree that if there are any problems with the rollout that MS will take it on the chin – I just dont think anything will change even if there is backlash. I am waiting to see if MS "offers" Windows 7 users some sort of nagware that effectively says, "Look, we know you dont want to switch, but we have made some changes that will hopefully convince you otherwise."</p>

<p>I have been running 1903 from the MSDN ISO on over 5 computers for 3 weeks now. Not one glitch, I seriously have not encountered a single problem. I upgraded to Office 2019 and that worked well too. Also, the networking on my surface go seems better but that could be a firmware fix or 1903, not sure.</p>

<p>The fade in and out animations when opening and closing windows doesn't persist. Sometimes the option checkbox itself will be cleared, other times it's ticked but has no effect. It's inconsistent but is reproducible on 2 different machines. </p>
