Windows 10 Version 2004 Usage Surges Into First Place

Windows 10 version 2004 is now the most popular version of Windows 10, with almost 38 percent of all Windows 10 PCs using this version. That’s according to the latest data from AdDuplex, which cites a survey of over 100,000 PCs for this month’s report.
“[The] October 2020 Update [which upgrades PCs to Windows 10 version 20H2] just started rolling out and it’s too early to make any assumptions about its rollout velocity at this point,” the new report explains. “In the meantime, May Update becomes the most used Windows 10 version out there.”

Microsoft had just released the October 2020 Update and thus Windows 10 version 20H2 six days earlier, and it is purposefully metering the release to ensure quality. So it’s no surprise that it “barely registers on [the] chart” that AdDuplex supplies showing the relative usage of each Windows 10 version over time. 20H2 accounts for 1.7 percent usage in its first “month” of availability. (Really six days.)
The rise of its predecessor, version 2004, into the top spot, however, is quite interesting: AdDuplex says that this version is installed on 37.7 percent of the PCs it surveyed. Meanwhile, Windows 10 version 1909 is in second place with 32.4 percent usage and 1903 brings up the rear with 22 percent usage.
