Later this year, Microsoft will be releasing two new phones, codenamed Cityman and Talkman, and with these phones the company will be offering a new device currently codenamed munchkin. The peripheral, which you can see in the above image that is connected to the phone, links the device to a larger screen as well as providing full-size USB ports.
When the device is released, it will support three USB ports, one HDMI and one DisplayPort. The device, to no surprise, will have the option for its own power supply which means that your phone can also be charged while plugged into the dock.
One of the key features that will arrive with Windows 10 Mobile later this year is continuum for the phone. This feature allows you to extend the mobile OS on to a larger screen and then use Universal apps with a mouse and keyboard. This peripheral will make it easy to quickly connect/disconnect your phone from a larger display.
For those who are wondering if this is the only way to use the feature, continuum is also supported over Miracast. And seeing that a mouse and keyboard can pair with a Windows 10 Mobile device, the continuum dock will not be a required peripheral to use the functionality but will simply provide an easy way to use the quickly setup the experience with a display that does not support Miracast.
Look for Microsoft to talk more about this device in the coming months, likely in October.
