Xbox App for Windows 10 Gets a Social Update

The Xbox app for Windows 10 has been updated this week to support Facebook integration, voiceover recording of Game DVR clips, and more.

I was positive I had seen these features before, but then I realized that’s because I’ve been using the Xbox (Beta) app, which provides an early peek at new functionality. But if you’re on the normal, shipping version of the Xbox app, here’s what you can expect to see in the latest update:

Facebook integration (beta). You can now connect your Facebook account to your Xbox Live account and find friends to play with on the popular social networking service, and share your exploits. You’ll see a Facebook icon in the upper right of the app window (at the top of your Friends list) so you can get started quickly. (Facebook integration has also been added to, Microsoft says.)

Record voiceover in your Game DVR clips. This capability is already available on Xbox One, but with this update, you can now do so on Windows 10 as well. To enable microphone recording during a gaming session, type WINKEY + ALT + M. Or, you can enable this for all gaming sessions in settings.

Record any game. Starting with Windows 10 version 1151, you can now record game clips and capture screenshots for all Windows games, including desktop games where Game bar and Game DVR hotkeys didn’t previously work.

Integrated Store. There is a Store link in the Xbox app that lets you browse—and buy—both PC and Xbox One games right from your Windows PC.
