More Xbox 360 Games Now Work on Xbox One

Microsoft this morning announced the third batch of Xbox 360 games that will work on Xbox One using the Backwards Compatibility feature. But the firm is also changing the way it brings Xbox 360 games to Xbox One.

First, here’s the list of Xbox 360 games that were just added to Xbox One:

• The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
• Sam & Max Save the World
• Aegis Wing
• Counter-Strike: GO
• Age of Booty
• Space Giraffe
• Soulcalibur
• Skullgirls
• Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad
• Small Arms

You may notice that’s a pretty short list. The original list, from November, included over 100 Xbox 360 titles. And the second addition, from December, added 16 more games. So why is January’s list so short?

Because it’s not January’s list. Instead of just making batches of Xbox 360 games available once a month as before, Microsoft will not make these games available when they’re ready.

“Starting today, we’ll release titles as they become available, rather than a set monthly launch date,” Microsoft explains. “What this means for you is that you won’t have to wait to find out the latest titles; we’ll release whatever is available, when they’re available, once each title has received the engineering and publisher stamp of approval.”

It doesn’t appear to be available yet, but you’ll be able to track the addition of new games to the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility list via a dedicated page on the Xbox web site. And of course the full list of backwards compatible games will remain available separately as well.
