Microsoft’s New Office App for Windows 10 Now Available to Everyone

Microsoft announced a new Office app for Windows 10 devices back in December of last year. The new Office app replaces the original My Office app, offering an improved experience, and bringing all of your Office files together into a central hub.

The new Office app is now rolling out to everyone via the Microsoft Store. It works even if you don’t actually pay for Office, and it even lets you use the Office Online apps if you don’t have the actual apps installed on your device. The app itself is a Progressive Web App based on Office.com, by the way.

And that means you get all the same functionality as Office.com — the ability to access your Office apps, search for files, see your recent documents, shared documents, etc. Microsoft says the app can now be downloaded be from the Microsoft Store, though it still seems to be rolling out, so you may not have the new experience right away.

So, what's the advantage on a PC for this over other options for Office?

So then, it's basically an app-ified version of https://portal.office.com. Neat.

The link to the Microsoft Store needs to be updated. It contains Outlook.com as part of the link.
