I have never been able to get the automatic Insider Fast Ring update/upgrade system to work for me for years. Towards the end of the upgrade process I get a green screen reporting memory issues.
Over time I have tried every trick in the book and none work. But I did find that if I did a clean install from an old Insider ISO on a USB stick and then immediately went on the Fast Ring, it would upgrade me to the latest release without issue.
As soon as added my software (Photoshop/Lightroom, WinRAR and a few other common apps), I got the GSOD on updating the Fast Ring. Thinking that there was something running that I had installed was interfering, I eliminated all startup program setting and disabled all non-MS services. This is as close as I could get to starting in Safe Mode (you can’t update in proper Safe Mode of course).
But this had no effect. As I’ve said I tried all the tricks – reducing hardware to bare bones for example and even using a different motherboard.
Once an Insider build is installed it runs perfectly and in fact I rarely experience any bugs or whatever. I’ve of course sent logs and full reports to MS and reported it on Insider pages but was ignored.
It is incredibly frustrating and despite posting on numerous forums over a period of three years (yes I’ve had this Insider issue that long!) no one has ever come up with anything beyond the simplistic boilerplate responses. Help!
