Apple Updates iWork Suite With New Customization Features, More

Apple is rolling out new updates to its iWork suite to introduce some minor new features. The company is updating the Pages, Numbers, and Keynote apps for Mac and iOS today. The updates come just a day after Apple released betas of its next-gen operating systems.

The new update for all the apps introduce the ability to fill up text with gradients or images, and also adding the ability to apply new outline styles. That may not sound massive, but it’s a first for Apple’s iWork suite.

The updates also uses face detection to focus on the subjects in photos and intelligently position them in things like placeholders and objects, so you don’t have to manually crop them into focus. You can also now link from one page to another in Pages, and one sheet to other in Numbers. Numbers is also getting a new 128-bit calculation engine that, according to Apple, “greatly” improves accuracy.

There are a couple of other minor new features in these apps, and you can checkout the changelog for Pages 8.1 here, Numbers 6.1 here, and Keynote 9.1 here.

I find the iWork spreadsheet module marginally ok. I find Pages to be clunky and unusable. Keynote seems fine.
