Microsoft announced today that it will soon offer high-performance, cloud-based workstations to developers in Azure.
“Developers today face long onboarding times, conflicting development workstation settings, and difficulty switching between tasks,” Microsoft explains. “It can also be difficult for IT admins to maintain secure, compliant, and up-to-date dev environments while providing developers the flexibility needed to remain agile.
Microsoft Dev Box is a new cloud service that provides developers with secure, ready-to-code developer workstations for hybrid teams of any size. Dev teams can preconfigure Dev Boxes for specific projects and tasks, enabling developers to get started quickly. Dev Box also provides unified management, security, and compliance for IT so that Dev Boxes can integrate with Intune and Microsoft Endpoint Manager.
Microsoft is also shipping Azure Deployment Environments to make it easy for developer teams to quickly spin up cloud-based app infrastructure with project-based templates that establish consistency and best practices.
Both services will centralize management and governance, enabling developers to focus on coding while maximizing security, compliance, and cost efficiency, Microsoft says.
