Zorin Releases Zorin OS Upgrader Beta

Zorin OS is one of my favorite Linux distributions, but it has to date not supported in-place version upgrades. Fortunately, that’s no longer true, as Zorin has released a Zorin OS Upgrader Beta.

“After receiving countless requests from you throughout the years, we’re thrilled to introduce our most anticipated feature ever: the Zorin OS Upgrader,” the announcement post notes. “It allows you to upgrade between releases and editions of Zorin OS in-place, easily and seamlessly.”

Previous to this release, the only way to move between releases—like upgrading from Zorin OS 15 to Zorin OS 16—or between editions like Zorin OS Core and Pro was to back up your files, perform a clean install, restore your files, and then reinstall all your apps. But the Zorin OS Upgrader lets you keep your installation and just upgrade it. You know, like a real OS.

The Zorin OS Upgrader is available in Beta and supports upgrading from the free versions of Zorin OS to Zorin Pro and from the 64-bit version of Zorin OS 15 to Zorin OS 16. Instructions for downloading and installing it are available on the Zorin Help website.
