Copilot in Windows to Launch in a Wider Sidebar Pane by Default

Copilot in Windows is wider now by default

The Copilot sidebar in Windows 10 and 11 will soon launch in a wider, resizable, and more customizable view than is currently the case.

“We heard you,” Microsoft corporate vice president of Windows Shilpa Ranganathan tweeted today. “Windows Copilot now launches in an expanded window to give you more space to chat. You can resize it and easily switch back to a thinner side-by-side window too! Keep your feedback coming.”

I’m not seeing this change on any of my PCs yet, but perhaps that’s because I’m in Mexico. (UPDATE: That appears to be the case.)  In any event, based on the screenshot that Ranganathan provided, it appears that you can configure the width of the Copilot sidebar using a new control in the upper right of the pane between the “More options” (“…”) button and the Close window button. I further assume you can resize it by grabbing its left edge with the mouse cursor and dragging.

Curious this wasn’t tested in the Windows Insider Program first.

Actually, maybe that’s what she meant. Sigh.
